During her seven-week internship (4 May – 21 June 2018) at SwedBio, Sara is assisting with web article development and social media production, in light of recent and concurring projects conducted by SwedBio’s collaborative program. Her expertise in communications, English language editing, and policy analysis will additionally support focal areas relevant to her undergraduate studies, including biocultural diversity, climate change and ecosystems, and values and governance.
Sara is a graduate of the College of the Atlantic (Bar Harbor, ME, USA) with a Bachelor of Arts in Human Ecology where she accrued an interest in climate justice, international environmental policy, and indigenous rights issues. In recent years, Sara participated as an observer and reporter at UNFCCC COPs in Lima, Paris, and Marrakesh, as well as working with socio-environmental initiatives in Peru, the United States, Vietnam, Morocco, Bolivia and Colombia. In her final year at College of the Atlantic, Sara completed an undergraduate thesis on community-driven climate solutions and perceptions among three Wabanaki tribes in northeastern Maine.
After the summer, Sara will begin an Erasmus Mundus joint master’s program on Environmental Sciences, Management, and Policy (MESPOM) in Budapest, Lesvos, and Lund. During the program she hopes to learn more about applying social-ecological theory and policy to practice through diverse, interdisciplinary methodologies across local and international levels.
