ICLEI is the world’s leading association of cities and local governments dedicated to sustainable development. ICLEI promotes local action for global sustainability, supporting cities to become sustainable, resilient, resource-efficient, biodiverse, and low-carbon. ICLEI’s Cities Biodiversity Center, located in South Africa, offers cities a broad portfolio of supportive services, including: capacity development and up-skilling, technical advice, advocacy support, networking forums, profiling of achievements and conference organisation.

The ICLEI Africa regional office, working across the entire Continent, and currently active in 46 countries in all regions of Africa, has numerous programmes, projects and initiatives that aim to promote and achieve sustainable development through an emphasis on influencing urban resilience and multi-level governance, development policies, decision-making processes and localised, yet scalable action and implementation of global development agendas.

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is the leading global network of over 1,750 cities, towns and regions committed to building a sustainable urban future. Through this network, ICLEl impacts over 25% of the urban population, in more than 124 countries worldwide. The ICLEl Africa Secretariat, the regional office for ICLEI in Africa, collaborates closely with the global ICLEl network and other regional offices around the world, in sharing tools, materials, strategies and good practice specifically designed and implemented at the local level.
