SwedBio is a program that, together with a wide network of partners, works for sustainable and equitable management of biological diversity from local to global level. Since the program’s establishment in 2002, SwedBio has worked to contribute to poverty alleviation, human rights and increased justice, sustainable livelihood opportunities and social-ecological systems rich in biodiversity that are resilient to various types of global changes such as climate change. A particular focus for SwedBio and partners is to support the full and effective participation of rights holders and their own organizations in policy processes concerning biodiversity and sustainable development.

The position
SwedBio is recruiting a senior officer focusing on internal- and external organizational development and partner relations. The position is a senior role in the organization and will require comprehensive understanding and thorough experience in developing Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (PMEL) tools. SwedBio employs a combination of qualitative and quantitative monitoring tools and methods to analyze outcome-level changes.

Background and duties
You have previous background in developing Theory of Change (ToC) and corresponding methods for continuous learnings and have previously demonstrated a capacity for building results chains and adaptive management systems including the understanding of outcome-level results and changes. You have managed systems for operational efficiency and flexibility in supporting partner organizations and internal processes guiding programmatic activities and strategic decisions.

The external part of the position includes leading and facilitating deep learning processes together with our network- and partner organizations. It also includes developing tools for screening of partners and donors from the perspective of a Human Rights Based Approach (HRBA) as part of quality assurance.

Developing methodologies and processes for improved partner engagements further entail implementing screening tool and processes for potential donor collaborations as well as tools for screening democracy, power, agency and poverty alleviation perspectives. Expected to be resulting in improved funding modalities including refining processes for core funding, forwarding of funds and novel types of networking and partnerships.

You will be expected to participate in main partner events, donor meetings, and manage continuous analysis of results and communication to donors. The role is supporting our Fundraising, Resource Mobilization and Communication efforts. You assist in this by making results easily accessible for colleagues and other stakeholders. This includes international donor screening and understanding donor requirements.

Travel requirement
You will be expected to make week-long international travels for partner engagements and policy processes, sometimes in challenging environments. In addition, you will be required to travel within Europe and overseas for shorter assignments. 

Qualifications
Requirement

  • Master’s degree in global studies, international relations, rural development or equivalent.
  • Excellent command of English is a requirement. Working knowledge of Swedish and knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
  • Good understanding of the rights perspective (Human Rights-Based Approach) and the importance of human rights within the development agenda
  • Facilitation skills and partner engagement experience
  • Methods development including PMEL, ToC, Log-frame, organization development, adaptive management and learning processes.
  • Knowledge of Swedish International Development policy landscape and the Reform Agenda is crucial for the success of this position.

Meritorious

  • Experience of Sweden’s work within the EU and experience of the UN system are meritorious.
  • Local experience from on-site development cooperation in one of Sweden’s partner countries is a strong asset.
  • Prior experience of fundraising and Resource Mobilization will be considered a definite advantage.

Personal characteristics
Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong ability to team working. Self-drive, initiative and motivation. Analytical and communications skills. The ability to quickly familiarize yourself with and create an overview of complex issues is of crucial importance.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, indefinite-term position with a six-month trial period. Salaries at Stockholm University are determined individually; therefore, please indicate your requested salary. Start date as per agreement.
